I just want to express how angry some drivers make me. Guys, driving is no
playing matter. Of course it took me 5 years to realize this myself. I used to
be a very aggressive driver. I loved cutting people off, thought intimidating
the slow driver in the fast lane was cute, and spent many an afternoon with
my blood pressure sky high because of the evils of the dumb driver.
Now that I am older and wiser, I want to give everyone a couple of tips to
staying alive on the road.
Let them get in front of you.
If there is a driver who insists on being where you are, let them. Punking
them out could realistically end in disaster. Just slow down and let them rush
in front of you so that they can beat you to that stoplight ahead. It’s really
no big deal.
Listen to a good song while stuck on a congested road.
Screaming to the highway gods that they’re idiots won’t get you where you
are going to any faster. Besides, those gods are sensitive and will make it
even worst for you. So play your favorite tune and sing along instead. Try
it. See how better your commute will be.
Apologize with some kind of sincere gesture when you are wrong.
How infuriating is it when someone does the stupidest thing on the road and
then starts to curse you out instead of apologizing? Like when the guilty
party is on a side street, you’re coming along doing 45 miles on the main
road, there is nobody behind you but the guilty party just has to rush out
right in front of you instead of waiting. They're wrong but will get mad when
you honk your horn at them with a look of disbelief on your face. It happens
to me all the time. So now, when you're on the highway and you don’t see
that car on your right and you start to enter that lane, when they honk at
you for dear life, get back into your lane, and when they pass you with their
middle finger up, throw your palms in the air and look sincerely sorry. That
will possibly prevent that person from wanting to get even and maybe even
hurting you or your car. Go ahead. Apologize. You know you’ve been
wrong plenty of times.
Driving is serious. People can die. It’s not worth it. And people, please,
buckle up. It’s the law and it’s a safe way to drive.
This public announcement was brought to you by one frustrated driver who doesn’t want
to die at the hands of a idiotic SUV or hummer driver who is arguing on the phone or in a
rush to their yoga class.
